One of Frederick's longest running businesses started
in 1937 by owner Alvey V. Renn, the service and new car dealership
was first located at 410 North Market Street but moved to
its current location at 526 North Market the following year.
Mr. Renn purchased many of the small houses and lots around
East 6th Street as well as purchased additional land from
the city in that area, creating downtown's largest automobile
service station and dealership (later co-owned by Mr. David
Oland). The dealership was sold to John F. Kirby in 1980.
Kirby had continued to operate the dealership in downtown
Frederick, citing in advertising, "If you come to downtown
Frederick, we'll make it worth your while." Shown here
in 1938 are (up right call-out): Charles Watkins, David
Oland,
Alvey Renn, and George Henderson. Shown in front of the new
dealership in 1942 (main photo) are: Edgar Culler, Arnold
Rice, Staley Schultz, Jesse Marshall, George Lockard, Charles
Watkins, Alvey Renn, David Oland, W.M. Ray Spurrier, Carlton
Hoffman, and Sharetts E. D. Oland. (photo courtesy of
